Our Custodial Services group focuses on safe, fair and humane management of those in our custody.
It works together with the Pae Ora, and Communities, Partnerships & Pathways groups, to deliver integrated services throughout a person's journey through the corrections system - to support the better wellbeing, rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes sought under our strategy Hōkai Rangi.
This role is a key member of the Custodial Services Leadership team and responsible for providing centralised and national support for operational services for the custodial function including operational/tactical response, prisoner communication and intelligence services.
This position ensures national consistency, effectiveness, and efficiency across the custodial function and supports operational responses that require national coordination.
As Director your responsibilities will include:

Providing strategic advice and services across a range of operational functions.
Supporting operational responses to issues requiring national coordination.
Leading major projects and programmes on behalf of the Commissioner Custodial Services.
Directing communications, intelligence, tactical operations, and security functions to meet the needs of a complex and dispersed network of customers.
Overseeing the governance of Corrections Intelligence and the delivery of strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence services.
Building and maintaining relationships with key personnel across emergency services to ensure adequate support.

You build and sustain positive relationships which will enable you to champion, lead, and influence across our operational service delivery functions to deliver integrated pathways to the people we manage and their whānau.
To be successful with your application you will have:

Extensive knowledge and experience in operational delivery within a custodial service environment; a subject matter expert, capable of managing major incidents and media.
A strong awareness of justice sector trends, cultural, political, and social environments of custodial service delivery, and an in-depth understanding of government and public safety risk.
The ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting, appreciating the complexities and whole-of-government approach related to succeeding with Māori.
Advanced relationship management skills, including the ability to lead cooperative efforts, build strong relationships with external agencies, and manage potential conflicts.
Experience with large-scale organisational and systems change, governance, and strong negotiation skills in challenging environments.
The midpoint of the salary range is $219,493 and the full range(85%-120%) is $186,570 - $263,392.Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
