The LCCC position of Adjunct Instructor, Adult Basic Education - ESL is responsible for Adult Education (AE) Transitions classroom instruction and related activities. Most students in this program need to prepare to take the Wyoming High School Equivalency Certificate (HSEC) assessment which is based on the College and Career Readiness section of the Common Core Standards or prepare for the entrance exams to proceed to credit classes at LCCC. Subjects taught are Reading, Writing, Science, Math, and Social Studies at all levels from basic to college-ready. Students are also referred to these 'transitional' classes by the ACC Testing Center and Student Services to ensure that those at-risk students are 'college ready' to successfully begin LCCC classes or enter the workforce. In addition, this faculty member may be assigned to teach English as a Second Language classes as needed. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day or evening on any Laramie County Community College campus or outreach center as assigned

Prudent utilization of LCCC's resources is a prime responsibility of LCCC's administration. Therefore, the college reserves the right to change course assignments if needed. Full-time faculty member with less than a full load may be assigned to teach a course that was originally assigned to an adjunct instructor. All changes in teaching assignments will be made prior to the first class meeting. The position of Adjunct Instructor is part-time, non-benefitted, and employed on a course-by-course basis without any obligation or promise of continued future employment and are provided competitive compensation.

Adjunct faculty must notify the dean of the school in which they teach if they are employed in another position at LCCC.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Starting Date: Position is open until filled. Tentative start date: July 29, 2024.

Compensation: $23.19 per hour.

Essential Functions:

Teaching:

Teach assigned classes as per course schedule and meet required contact hours, unless permission to deviate has been approved by appropriate supervisor to accommodate student need

Teach classes according to the approved College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR) and provide a current course syllabus for each course taught to the appropriate supervisor

Post and maintain office hours or maintain regular hours in the Student Success Center, Writing & Communication CenterTeaching and Learning Center, or other areas approved by the immediate supervisor in accordance with College policy and procedure

Communicate with and respond to students in a timely manner (in most instances this means 1-2 faculty work days

Participate in ongoing, systematic, and documented assessment of student learning for all courses, programs, and the College's general education core abilities

Teach day, evening, weekend, or distance education courses determined by program needs

Instruct English as a Second Language courses as assigned

Maintain a current and accurate student records, grades, and assessments

Curriculum Development:

Assist in the design, implementation, and review of Adult Education and English as a Secondary Language programs to ensure alignment with current or emerging community, state, grant, or national needs, as appropriate

Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies

Develop and maintain instructional materials to support course and program competencies as applicable

Coordinate with and provide input to appropriate subject librarian to assist in selecting, evaluating, and deselecting library resources as applicable

Instructional Delivery:

Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student success

Incorporate current subject matter expertise into instruction

Utilize varied learning activities to maximize student engagement and success

Employ relevant teaching tools, strategies, and classroom technologies

Prepare and maintain classroom and/or lab facilities

Assessment of Student Learning and Continuous Improvement:

Support student learning with timely and on-going feedback on progress and provide assistance towards meeting the course competencies

Comply with College procedures, practices, and deadlines related to instructional delivery, formative and summative assessment, and reporting requirements to include records management, redlining activities, grade submission, equipment management (as applicable), etc.

Communication:

Utilize LCCC email accounts (email application and learning management system email) to communicate with students, colleagues, supervisor, and/or supervisor's designee

Communicate with and respond to students in a timely manner (in most instances this means 1-2 work days)

Be available either through email, phone, or in person to assist students who have questions regarding the class or materials

Submit approved syllabus to appropriate dean's office

Maintain current contact information with the school office

Share appropriate notices with students (e.g., announcements, student activities, upcoming events, etc.)
