Overview:
Lovelace Biomedical is seeking a Medical Technologist Laboratory Supervisor to join a team of researchers dedicated to the Lovelace mission of advancing and bettering human health.
The ideal MT Laboratory Supervisor will be part of a team with a larger scientific purpose, will collaborate effectively with internal and external clients, have an inquisitive scientific mind and the desire to learn new and exciting disciplines.
At Lovelace Biomedical, we support a bevy of exciting advanced research and development initiatives in a hybrid contract-academic environment, including R&D services for pharmaceutical, chemical, and agricultural industries.
Under general direction of the Laboratory Manager and Director of Pathology, the MT Laboratory Supervisor will perform a variety of routine laboratory procedures and maintenance tasks for Hematology and body fluid analysis, Clinical Chemistry, Coagulation, and Urinalysis in the Clinical Pathology laboratory in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulations and protocols.
The successful candidate will also with assist in administrative functions of laboratory management, including staff and bench scheduling, inventory control and management, review and investigation of quality control documentation and issues, and staff training, in addition to providing technical guidance and oversight.
Additional supervisory activities may include review and quality control of data, acting as a primary point of contact in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific area or with comparable course work and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully perform a variety of routine laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments.
Requires strong professional-level written and verbal communication skills, excellent problem-solving and decision making skills, excellent judgement and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Must have the ability to lead, supervise and train staff and students.
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment.
Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator.
May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
