GENERAL SUMMARY
The Statewide Mental Health Court Coordinator is a highly responsible position in the New
Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB) that oversees and coordinates mental health court programs in
the management of mental health court programs and is responsible for supporting these programs in
their day-to-day operations under the oversight of the Statewide Treatment Court Coordinator. The
person in this position must have a knowledge base about the courts, mental health treatment and
services, probation and parole services, and treatment practices which will be conducive to facilitation
of cross training and collaboration among the various mental health court program team members.
Employees in this position will be required to travel during the regular course of business and are
subject to transfer or reassignment at the discretion of the Director. Regular, full-time position working
in the New Hampshire Court System, subject to the sufficient and continued federal funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities
performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform tasks other than those specifically
presented in this description.
• Plans, implements, and monitors the activities of the mental health court programs to ensure they
are implementing key components and implementing applicable best practices, guidelines, and
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL

standards, including those published and updated by the National Association of Drug Court
Professionals Association or other National Association while serving the appropriate target
population(s).
• Assists the local mental health court program teams in their operations; assists counties seeking
mental health court implementation.
• In collaboration with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), writes and manages grants,
including the accounting and auditing of grant funds and completing comprehensive federal grant
reporting requirements.
• Conducts research, gathers and analyzes data, and draws valid conclusions to support mental
health court operations, continued funding, and expansion.
• In consultation with the Statewide Treatment Court Coordinator, plans and participates in
facilitation of interdisciplinary training for the Mental Health Court team members.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with program stakeholders, including, but not limited to,
mental health agencies, community organizations, probation services, NHJB treatment court
coordinators, defense counsel, prosecution, judicial officers, court staff, jail superintendents and
law enforcement.
• Attends and participates in conferences, meetings and committees as the Mental Health Court
Coordinator representative. Also attends pre-court staff meetings and court hearings as deemed
appropriate for the purposes of assessing effectiveness and assisting the local court in improving
practices.
• Consults with the Statewide Treatment Court Coordinator and mental health court judges on a
wide range of organizational and operational issues including but not limited to related program
efficiency, as well as internal and external quality assurance.
• Monitors and evaluates local Mental Health Court programs and efficacy including measuring
recidivism rates, and evaluating compliance with applicable national state standards and
guidelines;
• Assists with the development of a statewide database for evaluation purposes.
• Identifies and recommends to the Statewide Treatment Court Coordinator policy and procedural
changes, administrative procedures for implementing programs on a statewide basis, and
corrective actions.
• Assists the local mental health courts with creating policies and procedures and the participant
handbook.
• Performs other related functions as assigned by the Statewide Treatment Court Coordinator.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Social
Sciences, Social Work or Mental Health.
• Five (5) years of criminal justice/mental health specialty experience.
OR
• Additional high-level work experience in related fields may be substituted for the required
Master's Degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Skilled in organizing, planning, implementing, and overseeing multiple programs or areas of
responsibility.
• Knowledge of mental health treatments, services, and resources in the State of New
Hampshire.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal records check and motor
vehicle records check.
• Experience with supervisory methods and practices.
• Must be able to travel statewide.
