Common Cases CABG, MVR, AVR, Aortic Root, Aortic Dissection, LVAD, heart transplant, lung transplant, Aortic aneurysm repair
Experience or 'Must have' skills Circulating - must be able to run a cardiac room independently & be resourceful
Is scrubbing required for RNs? Preferred
Is there a manager/Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? There is a coordinator & charge nurse available. Charge nurse does not take a case load.

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "10 & 12Hr shifts - CVOR staff is expected to be clocked in at 0630. Typical room start time is 0730, except for on Wednesdays, which is 0830 due to education in the morning.

Weeknight/Call Requirements "Weeknight/overnight call - from end of shift until 7a the next morning. As a team, call is kept fair & distributed as evenly as possible.
We do not schedule back to back shifts, they will have the next day off and can possibly be scheduled a day shift 24 hours after working a night shift
Weekend/Call Requirements From end of shift on Friday until 7a Monday morning. As a team, call is kept fair & distributed as evenly as possible. That may mean only 1 weekend/month or it may mean 2. It depends on team numbers & the number of call weekends for the rest of the team.
Holiday/Call Requirements Holiday call is assigned depending on the holiday & where it lands in the week. Permanent staff are rotated in with the expectation of 1 winter & 1 summer holiday.
What is call response time? 30mins
Floating Requirements May need to circulate/scrub thoracic & vascular cases. If there is a need in the general OR & there are no cardiac cases, could be floated to general OR.
Scrub Color/Dress Code OR scrubs provided
How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? Will be given about 1 week for orientation. Time is spent doing computer modules & the rest of the time is spent taking a tour of the OR & doing cases.
