Summary of Work

At the North Dakota Office of Management and Budget (OMB), we are driven by our values of respect, integrity, excellence, resourcefulness, and responsiveness to provide innovative leadership and support to the State of North Dakota.

We are currently looking for a full-time Accountant to join our Fiscal Division team, providing responsive and knowledgeable guidance to OMB stakeholders. As an Accountant, you will oversee the accounting functions of Facility Management, Shared Services, and other divisions as required, encompassing tasks such as maintaining tracking spreadsheets, authorizing payments, processing deposits, conducting cost accounting, and managing accounts receivable records.

You will also compile and analyze accounting data while collaborating with OMB Division Directors to ensure budgetary compliance. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, the official annual report of the State of North Dakota's financial status. Furthermore, you will provide expert guidance on GAAP accounting principles to ensure regulatory adherence and financial accuracy.

To succeed in this position, you will need to be a clear communicator and adept in thinking critically to explain accounting concepts and practices. You must be highly organized while working independently and able to manage your time and priorities effectively. You must be skilled in working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders in completion of your accounting responsibilities.

To be considered for this role, you must have a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business, or finance and two years of professional-level work experience in accounting or auditing. Experience working with ACFR closing packages or governmental financial statements, preparing, or auditing financial statements, and experience with PeopleSoft financials or other financial reporting software is preferred but not required.

Location:

This role is based in Bismarck, ND. Upon completion of an in-person training period, remote work may be an option two to three days per week, with the remainder of the time spent in the Bismarck, ND office.

About the Position:

Hiring range:
$6,000 - $6,800/month depending on experience.

This positions classification is Fiscal Svcs V (Account Budget Specialist III), Grade 106.
