POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is located in the Gallatin County Fairgrounds and is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, improvements and custodial care of the fairgrounds including all buildings, arenas, grounds, equipment and parking lots. This position reports to the Fairgrounds Director through the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and does not supervise other county personnel.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Help maintain major and ancillary facilities systems of the County Fairgrounds (e.g., heating, electrical, plumbing, security, etc.) by diagnosing or calling to attention mechanical, operational, and structural problems, or hazards; and completing or coordinating repairs with guidance from the Fairgrounds Director and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
Provide custodial and landscaping services for the County Fairgrounds by conducting routine cleaning, painting, mowing, snow removal, and other services.
Help set-up, clean up, and other maintenance services for Fairground events by ensuring that terms and conditions of individual rental agreements regarding facilities are met.
Administers preventative maintenance of facilities, equipment and tools by monitoring facilities, routinely inspecting tools and equipment, and coordinating preventative maintenance activities (e.g., performance testing, cleaning/oiling, sharpening, etc.) to ensure safety and effectiveness as directed by the Director and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Assist Fairgrounds event renters with equipment set up and facility details. Helping address issues in a timely manner and referring complex or contentious issues to the Fairground Director.
Recommend contract services to ensure quality, timely, and cost-effective maintenance services in appropriate situations., Help monitor contract personnel and assist with various projects related details under the guidance of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.

Other Duties as Assigned

Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for other employees, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood, etc., County employees. may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.

QUALIFICATIONS

This work requires a willingness to be a part of a team and to learn on the job. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry, construction; automotive and small engine mechanics is a plus, but there is opportunity to learn on the job to round out skills that you do not currently possess. Experience in power tools, heavy equipment, and maintenance vehicles is also a plus, but can be taught as part of the on-the-job skill building. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. This position must be able to follow directions to completion and apply critical thinking when necessary. Position must have the ability to work nights and some weekends; work with the public; maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Position must be willing to work alone or with others and must be reliable and responsible.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of related work experience (1-2 years).

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONAccountability

This position makes maintenance and repair decisions, in consultation with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, that affect the safety, operation, and availability of fairground facilities. The position is responsible completing work in a thorough and timely fashion. Some of this work is covered by established guidelines, and policy manuals are available others might have to be guided by best judgement.

Independence of Action

The position works under guidance from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor but not constant oversight. Most assignments are derived through work orders, maintenance schedules, and punch lists. The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor will review work for accuracy and timeliness.

Personal Contacts

This position has contact with fairground visitors, staff, vendors, other County departments, and members of the public to provide various program and service information, help with event preparation activities, resolve problems, and respond to various inquiries that may require some interpretation of agency policies. Although contacts are typically cooperative, members of the public may become hostile or irate during public events in this instance, the Fairgrounds Director and Facility Maintenance Supervisor are a resource to help.

Supervision Exercised

This position has no regular supervisory responsibility over other county employees. The position may provide guidance to employees with less experience, occasionally fill in for supervisor, or coordinate special projects. The position helps with volunteers and assigns workers (e.g., community service, detention, etc.) as needed.

Essential Physical Abilities and Working Conditions

The majority of work is performed in fairground buildings and in the field. The position requires strenuous walking, bending, and standing for extended periods; lifting and transporting machines, tools, and equipment; heavy equipment operation and exposure to loud noises, electricity, extreme heat, dust, power tools, and other hazards associated with an active maintenance site.
The incumbent is expected to work irregular hours (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays, etc.) and in all weather conditions as necessary to ensure those Fairgrounds maintenance needs are met. Will be.
