STAFF PRODUCT MANAGER DATA PLATFORM

The Role:
The newly created Product Management team at General Motors is adding a Data Platform Product Manager within its commercial software team.
The data platform will manage a streaming data pipeline and associated data stores that is responsible for supplying telematics and other data to commercial software products and services.
The Data Platform PM will be responsible for understanding data requirements from dependent teams, working with engineering to build robust and secure data infrastructure and communicating data quality metrics.
We are looking for individuals with high attention to detail that can manage a disparate set of mostly internal customers that are building products for GM s external fleet customers.
Given the importance of data to the success of the commercial software team and the technical nature of the product area, the ideal candidate has product management experience with data products or infrastructure and is familiar with common data processing and analytics technologies.
A bias for action and a self-starter mindset is important in GM commercial software s agile environment.Product Management is responsible for developing, managing, and driving product initiatives across the organization.
Key tasks include executing the product vision, roadmap, and requirements.
This also includes working with cross-functional teams, conducting market research, and collaborating with other teams to ensure the successful launch of new products.

Define data products and delivery mechanismsGather data needs and requirements from product and engineering teamsDefine and own the product roadmap for robust data infrastructure for ingesting, processing and storing telematics dataCreate and manage data platform usage dashboards to enable data-driven roadmap developmentProvide data transparencyDocument data definitions for use by other teams and enable them to self-serve data as much as possibleCollaborate with data engineers and data scientists to establish and monitor key data observability/quality metrics (e.g., completeness, accuracy, latency)Create transparent data quality dashboards and reporting tools to ensure clear communication with stakeholdersCollaborate with stakeholdersLead cross-functional communication to notify and align teams on data platform changes and issues along with their impact on downstream applications and servicesAnswer telematics data related questionsBe a point of contact for upstream teamsAdditional Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree7+ years of product management experience or relevant experience Experience working with data products or data infrastructure (streaming or analytics), preferably with knowledge of tools like Kafka, Azure Event Hubs and DatabricksFamiliarity with SQL or similar query languages, and willingness to learn othersStrong collaboration as well as written, verbal and visual communication skills as many teams will be dependent on the data platform and you will be a primary resource for data-related questionsAnalytical mindset with a passion for data and its role in driving business valueAppreciation for the importance of and challenges with data quality; the curiosity to interrogate data, propose and answer data questions and get to the bottom of results that don t make senseExperience working in an agile development environment with a bias for action, even in an ambiguous environmentCan-do attitude to ensure we find a way to move forward despite challengesPreferred Skills:
Experience working with data governance frameworksExperience with IoT/telematics data or the automotive industryThis role is categorized as hybrid.
This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA or Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.

It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties:
Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.The annual salary range for this role is $127,900 - $200,100.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.Bonus Potential:
