SCHOOL PROFILE

The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. SEED MD presents underserved students from across the state with an extraordinary opportunity to receive a tuition-free education that prepares them for success in college and beyond. The school currently enrolls 400 boys and girls in grades six through twelve. The Maryland General Assembly passed legislation to establish the School, which receives state and local funds. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) oversees the School and holds it accountable to state and federal standards for teaching and learning.

The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts. The School is part of a network of SEED schools in Washington D.C., Miami, and Los Angeles, and overseen by the SEED Foundation.builds on the success of The SEED School of Washington, D.C., which was founded in 1998. Ninety-five percent of SEED D.C. graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities.

SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator is responsible for all administrative aspects of development and public relations activities. She/he plays an important role by providing administrative support to the Development Office and participating in all fundraising activities including donor and public relations, direct mail appeals, and special events.

This position reports to the Director of Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence
Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files
Create monthly biweekly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed
Continually update and correct database records and Mailchimp records.
Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors prior to tours and events
Coordinate productions and mailing of spring and year-end appeal letters, as well as annual report mailings
Track tax credit donations in the database and keep a file for each tax credit donor
Send appropriate documentation to process credits to donors
Answer donor questions regarding tax credit programs
Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials, track costs, sponsorships, ticket sales, and other duties as assigned for fund-raising events
Handle all administrative details associated with Development Committee meetings (i.e. prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, etc.)
Prepare media materials for distribution. (i.e. copying, filing, mailing, e-mailing)
Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development
Faculty and staff giving campaign
Draft direct mail fall and spring appeals
Provide development updates for Facebook, twitter and website
Act as liaison between Development Director and student ambassadors for events and tours
Explore giving campaigns and grassroots giving opportunities
Prepare purchase orders for vendors
Track SEED MD scholarship recipients
POSSIBLE PERFORMANCE MEASURE

Number of donations processed and acknowledged within 24 to 48 hours
Success in maintaining accuracy of database records
Accuracy of fundraising reports
Success in coordinating the production of direct mail appeals
Success in maintaining donor hard copydigital files
Success in executing fundraising events

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required and at least one year experience working in a nonprofit setting or fundraising preferred or associate's degree with at least 3 years' experience working in a nonprofit setting and/or fundraising.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint required. Experience with Blackbaud's Raisers Edge database management preferred.
Internet savvy and skilled with computer technology, in order to organize and effectively maintain records and ongoing communications.
