The Career Center of The George Washington University Law School advises and counsels law students in professional development and career strategies.
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Professional Development and Career Strategies, and overseeing a team of two Assistant Directors, this position is an opportunity to combine strategic planning, employer outreach, and counseling to the specific group of GW Law JD students who are seeking jobs during their 3L year and immediately after graduation.
The Director of Employment Placement will be an integral part of the Career Office and work in tandem with the leadership of the office to develop processes, systems, best practices, and programs that will ensure the success of this group of students.

The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities outlined below:

Building a robust employer pipeline and developing an expanded network of available legal positions for students, including working with small and midsize employers to create long term or short-term positions for students' first legal job.
Overseeing the delivery of career placement and advising to students and alumni.
Providing training and support for career placement advisors and counselors, including employer outreach, counseling methodology, strategies, and practice-specific approaches.
Staying abreast of recruiting trends and best practices, including the relevant criteria for employment statistics used in national rankings.
Building relationships with alumni and other prospective employers to introduce students to opportunities for networking, mentoring, informational interviews, job leads, and other support for students and recent graduates.
Overseeing the collection and tracking of data for relevant students and recent graduates at a level that allows the Career office to know the information necessary to report information internally and (as required) externally and to allow the Career Office to assist the students in their job searches.
Serving as an advisor in the Inns of Court program and assisting with program coordination and delivery of program content.
As required, representing the Career Center at national, regional, and local meetings of appropriate professional organizations and associations, and periodically working with law career counselors at other law schools.
Assisting with relevant networking fairs, job fairs, recruitment programs, and other career development programs, which may include travel.
