and Duties Join a diverse team, leading the way toward healthy communities and safe environments for all! The CHC Deputy Director manages and directs public health policy development with a wide range of issues.
The Deputy Director develops an overarching identity and direction for the Center, bringing together its disparate programs into a cohesive whole with a shared vision and direction that are in alignment with the Department.
The Deputy Director is a liaison and provides policy recommendations to other state entities, including the California Health and Human Services, the Governor's Office, the Legislature; federal and local governmental entities; community-based organizations; and California business and health care communities.
The Deputy Director ensures the activities and policies of the CHC's programs promote equity and diversity and are consistent with the Department's strategic vision and goals for public health in California.

The responses to Supplemental Questionnaire should not exceed one page per question, be written in Arial font no smaller than 12 points.
Please clearly and concisely identify experience in the five questions exactly as they are listed below:

Describe your experience and actions you have taken to foster equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Include examples of how you incorporated health equity into program and/or policy development and implementation.
Describe your leadership style and ability, including your experience creating and executing on a vision; building in evaluation and quality improvement to programs and/or policies; and motivating and aligning disparate programs and employees.
Describe your education, experience, and knowledge of a wide range of public health and environmental health programs as related to the job duty statement.
Describe your experience and approach to working with partners - including community groups, internal and external policy makers, local health jurisdictions, state agencies, and/or other governmental entities.
Describe your experience implementing change management strategies and workload management strategies.
To the extent possible, highlight examples where you had to create the strategies and changes for programs and describe the internal and external communication strategies utilized.
Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Must have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels of a large department.
Experience:

leading and aligning diverse programs and promoting a positive team environment while encouraging collaboration
driving health equity policy and programming
presenting information to a wide range of audiences, including the media; legislature; local, state and/or federal agencies; universities; the public; and other community groups
Knowledge of:

government administrative and operational functions including, but not limited to, hiring, procurement, and budgetary processes
transformational and trauma-responsive leadership
Ability to:

approach complex health problems with creativity, inclusiveness, and critical analysis and make clear and concise data and community-driven recommendations
collaborate and maintain effective relationships with other governmental institutions, local health jurisdictions, community-based organizations, and other strategic partners to enhance programs and services as well as advance policies, systems, and environmental changes that promote health equity
encourage and support innovation and continuous improvement
adapt to changing priorities and direction, while continuously iterating and pivoting as needed given evolving information and feedback
