What You Get to Do!

Our Executive Director is responsible for the oversight or direct supervision of all aspects of the operations of Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory, including but not limited to organizational development, strategic planning, coordination and evaluation of programs, fiscal accountability, and fundraising capability. Through the authority of the Board of Directors, formulates and administers organizational policies, procedures, and protocols by performing the below-listed duties personally or through subordinate managers or staff.

General

Continual quality improvement.

Participates in the evaluation of individual and team functioning, actively works towards team goals, and organizational objectives.

Hold the organization accountable for the organization mission, vision, and values.

Interacts with all members, staff, and Board with high ethics and accountability.

Implement the strategic growth plan for the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory/Discovery Center.

Management

Reports directly to the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory Board of Directors and keeps them informed on the operational, financial, and community environmental status.

Manage the organization through direct reports and the leadership team.

Responsible for the oversight of Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory operations.

Responsibilities include: some hiring duties, oversight of training, and education for employees, performance management, addressing complaints, and problem-solving.

Provide leadership for all staff and volunteers.

Through authority of the Board of Directors; implement and evaluate Board policy and make recommendations for changes.

Administration

Participate with the Board of Directors and Directors/Managers in formulating and administering organizational long-range goals and objectives.

Review activities, costs, and data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.

Confer with Directors/Managers to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from status or conditions.

Oversight of policy development and implementation across the organization.

Fiscal

Ensure Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory annual budget is created in a timely and accurate manner, ensure compliance with revenue and expense requirements of all funding streams.

Ensure that Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory has adequate insurance to cover contingencies.

Ensure that Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory has adequate working capital.

Ensure that adequate fiscal reserves are in place for contingencies and sustainability of function should major funding sources fail.

Ensure that Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory has appropriate financial policies and procedures that assure compliance with federal and state accounting laws and best practices.

Ensure that annual financial audit occurs in a timely manner.

Ensure that investment policies are sound and in place.

Ensure that a conflict of interest policy for Board, management and staff is in place.

Ensure that financial statements are accurate and meet the needs of the Board of Directors for accountability.

Board of Directors Development

Working with Board leadership and committees to continually further the goals of the organization

Works with the Board of Directors to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory.

Donor and Community Development

Working with the Board, develop strategic donor cultivation goals and plan.

Give public presentations related to various issues related to Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory mission and vision.

Ensure the development and implementation of a Sustainable Funding Plan for the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory.

What You Will Bring

Passion for our mission!

Bachelor's degree in related field, Master's degree a plus.

Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience.

Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.

High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization's strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.

Ability to effectively communicate the organization's mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.

Demonstrate an ability to be an effective and creative manager, leader, and mentor to the staff, committed to open communication with the Board, staff, members, visitors and organizational partners.

A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.

Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.

Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.

Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

Must inspire others and maintain a culture of transparency, integrity, and honesty in all aspects of your role.

Proven leadership and multi-tasking skills.

Proven ability to develop high-performing teams.

Excellent communication skills.

Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon state driver's license.

Willingness to travel on a minimal basis.
