WellStone is North Alabamas most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider serving over 13,000 persons a year in Huntsville, Cullman and Decatur. We are a non-profit community organization that offers a wide range of services for every phase of life, from children to older adults.
*We are hiring an Adult Residential Peer Support Specialist*
*What We're Looking For -*
Full or Part-time positions in adult inpatient and outpatient day program settings
* Provide peer support to adults by sharing your own experience and building trusting relationships
* Offer support and guidance to adults as they receive services and support from our organization
* Promote the idea and concept of recovery
* Interact directly with consumers, both individually and as a group
* Helping develop coping skills
* Help consumers develop insight into their illness
* Assist in developing problem solving skills
* Teach self-help skills
* Help consumers in developing support systems
* Connect consumers with peer support/self-help groups
* Assist consumers in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy
* Assist consumers in developing skills in combating negative self-talk
* Assist consumers in developing a Personal Recovery Plan, individually and in group
* Assist non-consumer staff with understanding recovery, the importance of recovery based
services and the value of the experience lived by individuals with substance use disorders
* Participate as a member of the clinical team

* Reliable transportation within the City Metro area
* High School Diploma or GED
* Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills
* Lived experience in mental health or adult services and/or systems
