We are seeking a candidate who excels in interacting with internal stakeholders, possesses a calm and collected demeanor, has a strong understanding of property transactions, and is proficient in operating the landlone system.
This position requires someone who can effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues across various departments, maintain composure in challenging situations, and demonstrate expertise in property transactions.
Familiarity with the landonline system is essential for success in this role.
We are looking for a senior lawyer to assist the head of legal.
This individual will be expected to lead and support the team of solicitors in the Property Rights department of our Customer Delivery business group.
Your primary responsibility will be to develop the team's capabilities and engagement, while also providing legal technical leadership and guidance.
You will be responsible for ensuring that our organization's objectives are met by providing legal expertise in key areas such as land law, conveyancing, and Land Transfer transactions.
This includes registering dealings and instruments in the Land Titles Register and interpreting legislation such as the Land Transfer Act, Unit Titles Act, Property Law Act, Cadastral Survey Act, Official Information Act, and Privacy Act.
Your role will also involve applying legal interpretation of statutes to provide written opinions and advice to the Property Rights team.
You will collaborate closely with the Registrar-General of Land team on legal registration matters and contribute to the development of legislation, regulations, and a digitally enabled survey and title system.
As a thought leader, you will provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring on technical legal matters and new legislation.
You will also contribute to the identification, development, and delivery of legal training to other staff members.
Managing the professional development of your direct reports will be an important aspect of your role.
A customer-oriented focus is essential, and you will continuously strive to enhance the customer experience.
You will also play a role in engaging with conveyancing and surveying practitioners as well as key stakeholder groups.
Additionally, you will contribute to ensuring compliance with rules and standards, and be involved in reviewing and developing new standards.
Overall, we are seeking a dynamic individual who can lead our legal team, provide expert guidance, and contribute to the achievement of our organization's objectives in the property rights domain.
About you A legal degree and a current practicing certificate (or eligibility to hold one).
At least 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) with a strong focus on conveyancing law and practice, Land Transfer registration, and expertise in relevant legislation, including the Land Transfer Act.
Familiarity with Landonline is also required.
Strong communication skills, enabling effective conveyance of technical information to individuals who may not be familiar with the intricacies of Land Transfer registration.
