MissionThe Open Science Officer is a trusted agent representing VPA-OS, supporting open science policymaking, an advocate for EPFL's vision for open science, and the first partner on open science for the academic community.Main duties and responsibilitiesPersonally engage with the EPFL academic community to develop the dialogue about, and engagement with, open science.
Manage documentation, the VPA-OS website, and disseminate information.
Support and coordinate events on campus, facilitate discussions, and identify speakers.Drive strategic projects and policy-making processes, ranging from the coordination of internal EPFL projects (scientific or technical) and working groups, to the representation of EPFL in task forces or committees at the national and international level.Continuously stay updated on relevant open science trends, technologies and policy developments as well as extend the network of contacts within the open science academic ecosystem.Provide advice to senior administrators and stakeholders across campus and help draft policy memos and strategic documents.
Support the Open Science Strategic Committee.ProfileAcademic Requirements
Doctorate (PhD) in a discipline where research is conducted at EPFL.
Experimental sciences are particularly encouraged.Knowledge and experience
• At least 4 years of experience in research is required (PhD).
• There is no requirement for experience with specific open science practices.
However, you should be able to convincingly explain your own relation to open science as a researcher.
In this position, you will be expected to acquire the following knowledge.
• Up-to-date knowledge of open science research practices and impacts in various disciplines (not only your own).
• In-depth understanding of open science ideas, strategies, trends, policies, funding, regulations and legislation, at Swiss, European and international level.
• Familiarity with EPFL institutional organization and decision processes.Soft skills
• Very smart and quick-witted.
• Pragmatic and efficient.
• Diplomatic and sociable.
• Able to work autonomously on high-level tasks.
• Able to handle the pressure of a high-responsibility role.Other Skills
• Project management (including event organization).
• Clear and engaging writing and public speaking.
• Basic communication skill (website, social media).
• General research skills and ability to synthesize complex ideas.Languages (minimum levels)
• English (C1-advanced, working language)
