We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Municipal Treasurer to oversee the financial management of our municipality.
The Municipal Treasurer will be responsible for managing municipal funds, budgets, investments, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in public finance, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor the municipal budget in coordination with department heads and elected officials;
Oversee the collection and disbursement of municipal funds, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies;
Manage the municipality's cash flow, investments, and debt obligations to optimize financial performance and stability;
Prepare and present financial reports, statements, and forecasts to elected officials, senior management, and external stakeholders;
Coordinate the annual audit process and ensure timely completion of audit reports and recommendations;
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, accounts, and assets in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines;
Monitor revenue and expenditure trends, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions as needed to maintain budgetary control;
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making on capital projects, grants, and other initiatives;
Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements including property tax assessments and collections;
Stay abreast of developments in public finance, accounting standards, and best practices to enhance the municipality's financial management processes.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; master's degree or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation;
Extensive experience in municipal finance, budgeting, and accounting, with a minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role;
Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices, and regulations, including GASB standards;
Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook);
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences;
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis;
Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fiscal integrity, transparency, and accountability;
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with elected financial reporting and analysis;
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with elected officials, department heads, staff and external stakeholders.
Salary range Salary for this position will be between $80,000-$90,000 based on experience plus all benefits that are currently offered to full-time staff.
