Are you a visionary, creative, resourceful, and diplomatic individual? If so, we are looking for you to join the inaugural position of Executive Director at the Scarborough Charter Secretariat. Established in 2021 by a community of Canadian universities, the Scarborough Charter against anti-Black racism and for the inclusion of Black individuals goes beyond being a mere agreement among signatory institutions. It represents a concrete and unifying movement aimed at correcting systems and structures contributing to inequality, discrimination, marginalization, and disproportionate exclusion of Black individuals in academic settings and associated communities. As the appointed Executive Director, you will embark on a historic and transformative journey collaborating with a dedicated group of signatory institutions (the Inter-Institutional Forum) and partner organizations committed to combating anti-Black racism and promoting Black inclusion on campuses.
Lead the strategic and visionary initiatives of the Secretariat
Support the Forum in achieving the goals of the Scarborough Charter
Foster inclusivity in higher education and society
Promote equity, diversity, Indigenization, and decolonization
Ensure a conducive environment for all individuals in the academic community
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Human Rights, Social Justice, Equity, Law, Public Administration, or related fields
Experience in senior leadership roles within complex organizations, preferably in the public sector or higher education
In-depth knowledge of anti-Black racism and Black inclusion issues
Personal experience as a Black individual is advantageous
Strong interpersonal, communication, and mediation skills
Financial planning and management abilities
Experience in educational program development and delivery
