Field Technician - Part-time Summer Position

We're looking for motivated and talented Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit, Métis) individuals in New Brunswick ready to make a difference!

Are you someone with a passion for Indigenous Knowledge, the outdoors and environmental sciences? This opportunity is for you! SOAR's looking for an interim individual to join our team in New Brunswick to support western science field staff duringthe 2023 Field Season for New Brunswick Power Point Lepreau Small Modular Reactor Project.
This is a great opportunity to participate in Indigenous Knowledge Braiding, and gain valuable field technician experience throughout the 2023 field season.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Field Work (80%)

  • Comply with applicable health and safety procedures and guidelines
  • Travel to and from sites for field work 2.5 days/week
  • Work alongside field crew to collect aquatic and terrestrial baseline data at various sites, in all climates and on all terrains, documenting findings using a cellphone and/or tablet and field book
  • Work with Elders, Indigenous Land Users, Language holders and Knowledge Holders to increase Indigenous participation during the 2023 field season
  • Work with sub-consultants and subcontractors

Office Work (20%)

  • Work from home or the office during days without scheduled fieldwork
  • Participate in reporting
  • Participate in the end-of-season IK Braiding reflection virtual workshop
  • Work closely with environmental planners to support Indigenous Knowledge Braiding throughout the 2023 field season
  • Prepare reports and /or talk with Indigenous organizations

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • An interest in environmental science and a background in an environmental science field would be considered an asset
  • An interest in environmental monitoring and data collection
  • Valid driver's licence, a car with insurance or the ability to rent a car in New Brunswick
  • Reliability and the ability to work the required schedule as outlined above
  • Commitment to project quality and project deadlines

Experience

  • No experience is necessary, required training will be provided on site
