The Comox Valley Affordable Housing Society is a non-profit organization looking for an experienced bookkeeper to join our team. As the CVAHS bookkeeper, you will be working closely with the Executive Director, and we will expect you to perform the following duties (incl. but not limited to):
Develop a strong understanding of the Arcori system.
Conduct complex bank reconciliations.
Administer various accounts.
Prepare journal entries and schedules.
Reconcile accounts at month and year-end.
Prepare EFTs and Cheques as required.
Petty cash reconciliation and payroll reconciliation.
Manage finances for housing properties as well as various programs. Incl. rent and Hydro payments.
Help manage any future construction budgets and related financial duties.
Provide budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting, as requested.
Provide clerical and administrative support as needed
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
Diploma or degree in accounting/bookkeeping from a recognized post-secondary institution, or another relevant field. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience deemed acceptable to CVAHS.
Considerable progressive work experience in a high-volume computerized financial accounting environment.
Good knowledge and understanding of accounting disciplines, principles, practices, and processes.
Ability to learn new software and develop a strong knowledge of new systems in a timely manner. This will be a major requirement of the position.
Comprehensive practical knowledge of accounting procedures, working paper preparation, internal controls, and business practices.
Advanced practical knowledge of computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet software (such as Excel).
Considerable knowledge of technology jargon, including hardware, software, supplies, and services.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency and ability to exercise attention to detail with high accuracy, especially when working with numbers and dollars.
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
Excellent time management skills, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Must have a clear criminal record and ability to maintain clear record throughout employment.
