Vice President of Corporate Development & Finance

The Gitga'at people have existed and thrived in their Territory on what is now British Columbia's northwest coast since time immemorial.
The Gitga'at Development Corporation (GDC), the Economic Development arm of the Gitga'at Nation, became operational in 2012 and currently operates businesses in commercial property, sustainable forestry, construction, marine services, and fibre optic cables.
Actively involved in exciting projects with an extensive list of joint venture partners, GDC is continuously expanding its businesses across a variety of sectors including fisheries, ecotourism, quarrying, and trades-related business opportunities, as well as exploring innovative opportunities in other sectors.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President of Corporate Development & Finance (VP) is a key executive role at Gitga'at Development Corporation.
The VP is responsible for leading the strategic direction and financial growth of the corporation, optimizing financial performance, and realizing creative business opportunities including joint ventures, equity partnerships, and the expansion of existing operations.
This role ensures all business activities align with the cultural and economic aspirations of the Gitga'at First Nation.

Responsibilities Include

As the Vice President of Corporate Development & Finance, you will collaborate closely with the CEO to define and execute the corporation's strategic plan, including the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans that align with the corporation's vision and community values.
You will drive all aspects of business growth and financial operations, including mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures, and lead the assessment and integration of business opportunities to ensure they meet strategic and financial criteria.
You will evaluate investment opportunities and provide analytical support for decision-making processes, identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could affect the corporation's business operations and financial well-being, and oversee all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis.
Additionally, you will manage the finance department, providing leadership and ensuring the professional development of staff, while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Preparing and presenting detailed reports on the corporation's financial status and progress to the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders are also key responsibilities.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a highly ethical and transparent leader with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; an MBA or equivalent is preferred.
You should have 5 to 10 years of leadership experience in corporate development and financial management, preferably within First Nations economic development contexts.
Proven negotiation skills and proficiency in structuring deals to enhance organizational benefits are essential.
Strong financial management skills, including expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and analysis, along with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial databases, are required.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams and foster a community-focused corporate culture are also crucial.
Knowledge of the social and economic landscape of the Pacific Northwest of British Columbia is a strong asset.

The role offers an attractive base salary, cash incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package.
Remote work arrangements from within British Columbia with frequent travel, including to Gitga'at Territory, as required.
