Requirements:
- Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program
• OR-2 years of on-the-job training
• OR-7 years of experience working in the field
• OR-Military training program with 2 years surgical tech experience
- For RNFA:
current Arizona RN license or compact state license - For all First Assists:
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross(ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) BLS - ACLS Preferred.
- PALS Preferred.
- Graduate The American Board of Surgical Assistants with a Certification as a Surgical First Assist required.
- The RNFA Surgical Tech in the Operating Room at Northwest Medical Center, assists surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up for operations and passing items to doctors and nurses as needed and assists in preparing and moving patients and in cleaning the operating theater.
- Assists in preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
- Assists with opening of sterile supplies, sets up for procedures and maintains an orderly surgical field.
- Adequately prepares for procedures/surgeries and anticipates physician's needs during procedures/surgeries.
- Accepts and properly identifies any medication or solution onto sterile field.
- Handles specimens/cultures according to policy and performs sponge, instrument and sharps counts according to policy.
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment, instruments and supplies and returns all to proper locations.
