GFL seeks to advance economic opportunity for socially disadvantaged food producers in South Carolina, increase food security for historically marginalized and disproportionately affected populations and communities, and increase the long-term resiliency of the local food system.
The Local Food Intern will assist in expanding this program to support additional local producers.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesLocal Food Producer Outreach:
Identify and recruit BIPOC and women farmers and producers who can sell crops to LCFB.Create farm/producer profiles for marketing purposes.Assess the existing capacity of participating BIPOC and women farmers and producers.Assess needs and opportunities for future growth in the capacity of BIPOC and women farmers and producers.Create a directory of appropriate resources available for BIPOC and women farmers and producers.
Receiving Schedule farm deliveriesAssist the LCFB warehouse team with receiving local produce deliveries.Create receiving guidelines for quality standards to assist the LCFB warehouse team.
Administrative Create Purchase Orders for local produce purchases.Track expenditures to grant fundingAssist in budget planning for local food purchases.
Food Safety Follow food safety standards as established by the LCFB as it relates to product handling and sanitation.
Confidentiality Maintain strict customer, staff, and partner confidentiality for all personal information and documentation Customer Service Provide excellent internal and external customer service Job Requirements Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED requiredValid SC driver's license and reliable transportation are a must Preferred Education, Skills, Knowledge And Experience Data management experienceStrong organizational, time management, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on the task of producing quality workComputer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and OutlookUnderstanding of the diverse dynamics of the non-profit/social service environmentAbility to learn inventory management software (Ceres)Ability to complete pallet jack certification Physical Demands Flexible schedule Monday through Saturday; some eveningsAbility to lift 35-45 lbs.
