Clinical Nurse - PreOp/PACU department (full-time days)

Location:
UNM Hospitals

Participate in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) and work towards five CAP levels offering increasing compensation. Potential to earn up to $8.00 in addition to base pay, depending on Nursing Education and National Certifications.

Receive 17% weekday nights, 26% weekend nights, or 15% weekend day shift differentials!

Position Summary:
Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients, working within the nursing process. Provide clinical leadership and relief charge duties as needed. Serve as a role model to promote positive work environment and quality patient care, and ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include all age groups.

Responsibilities:
Patient Safety:
Demonstrate proactive approach by following policies and reporting/correcting environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk.
Development:
Enhance professional growth through education and participation in programs and workshops.
Environment:
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with Hospital standards.
Care Planning:
Implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
Medication:
Administer medication, including IV, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate findings.
Tests and Procedures:
Assist with special tests and procedures.
Emergency Measures:
Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
Medical Records:
Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
Inquiries:
Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy.
Participation:
Participate in orientation; assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel upon successful completion of preceptor training.
Patient Safety Concerns:
Report any potential or actual concerns and encourage patients to actively participate in their own care.

Qualifications:

Education:
Program Graduate with National Accredited Nursing Graduate. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience:
No minimum required, bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus.
Credentials:
CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days of hire, RN in NM or reciprocal agreement, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months, Basic Arrhythmia Certificate within 1 year, and PALS within 6 months. National Certification in area of specialty, PALS, and TNCC and/or ENPC are optional.

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Working Conditions:
Significant hazard with chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring personal protective equipment.
