ADM, a global leader in human and animal nutrition and the worlds premier agricultural origination and processing company, has an opening for a Technical Manager, Piloting at our Corporate Research Center located in Decatur, IL.

• Position summary
•

We are looking for an experienced engineer who will be responsible for the scale-up of new technologies and the scale-down of current production processes for optimization and troubleshooting!

This engineer will develop and execute projects using a stage-gate process to identify, mitigate, and manage process risks for commercial implementation. This role will work on technology-based projects across ADMs business units in areas such as chemical, food, nutrition, and bioprocessing. This position will lead cross-functional project teams, including chemists, engineers, and operations and commercial colleagues, and will also work with contractors and external vendors.

• Job responsibilities
•

• Partner with Research project teams to identify scale-up risks and then develop methods to mitigate before commercialization

• Evaluate production processes and develop the best methods for scale-down parameters and pilot testing required to make process changes that increase yield, purity, and/or capacity

• Prepare mass and energy balances of new or existing technologies to understand the scale and scope of piloting efforts

• Design experiments for plant and piloting trials

• Collaborate with plant engineers, vendors, and contractors to set up equipment in plant facilities

• Support pilot trials in industrial environments

• Design experiments and collect data to provide technical support to existing facilities

• Write detail reports and prepare comprehensive presentations

• Implement and supervise proposed changes in the field and provide support for existing processes

• Plan and execute engineering and research projects through commercial handoff

• Skills and proficiencies
•

• A bachelors degree in chemical engineering or equivalent experience is required, with 7+ years of experience in process/pilot operations and design in the food and/or chemical industry

• Extensive experience with a range of unit operations, such as filtration, distillation, evaporation, centrifugation, carbon treatment, ion exchange, chromatographic separation, solids handling, and various chemical transformations

• Experience in production and/or pilot improvement projects

• Experience with evaluating and integrating new technologies into existing production facilities is desired

• Be self-motivated and willing to expand process knowledge
