Lewis Central Community School District is looking for an HVAC Maintenance Technician. This position is a full-time full-year position. Experience with HVAC in a school setting is strongly preferred. POSITION TITLE:
HVAC Maintenance Technician

FLSA:
Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:
Buildings and Grounds Director

Summary:

Responsible for maintaining the heating, cooling and ventilation systems of District facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of the physical school plant may be made at all times.

Basic Duties (not all inclusive):

- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Maintains all State, Local safety and code requirements and Board of Education guidelines.
- Install, repair, alter, replace and maintain environmental systems equipment and components including but not limited to:
  air conditioning equipment, condensers, pumps, compressors, GEO Thermal Systems, boilers and other pneumatic and electric machinery and computerized controls, install and maintain cooling tower equipment and cooling water treatment equipment.
- Performs regular preventive maintenance.
- Ability to perform the diagnostic testing and analysis of HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Temperature Controls, Lighting and Electrical Systems
- Ability to complete work within the assigned budget and with outside vendors.
- Uses hand tools and power equipment to perform assigned tasks as needed.
- Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of District-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies for the HVAC needs.
- Determine the amount of time and materials necessary to accomplish tasks with the least expense and downtime of equipment.
- Will assist in analyzing current energy usage, and with the development of the district's energy management plan in order to provide proper environmental conditions with cost effective energy use.
- Indirect and functional supervision to outside contractors and project responsibility to other operation and facility employees.
- May be required to perform District-wide support services in case of emergency situations.
- May be required to be on 24-hour call.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a qualified apprenticeship program and/or an associate degree or higher in the appropriate field.
Holds or has the ability to obtain the appropriate licensing required by the District and the City of Council Bluffs for this trade.
Five (5) years or more of experience in the HVAC.

Hours/Schedule:
HVAC Maintenance Technician are scheduled no less than 9 hours per day. This requires a total of 5 hours of overtime each week. In addition to their regularly scheduled shift, the HVAC Technician may be asked to attend to time sensitive or emergency event for any building in the District outside of their normal working hours. Additional overtime is available and will occasionally be requested.

Rate of pay:
Hourly rate to be determined based off of experience and education.

As a full-time full-year position, this position is eligible for our full benefit package, including paid single health and dental benefits with the option to purchase family benefits. A $30,000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employee and have the ability to enroll in a few supplemental insurance programs (vision, accident/critical illness). All employees are automatically enrolled from day one, in the state sponsored retirement program, IPERS. The District contributes 9.44% of employees' wages to this. IPERS requires that employees contribute 6.29% of their wages.

Paid Leaves/Holidays:
The District offers both paid sick leave, paid personal leave, and paid vacation leave for this position. This position has 8 paid holidays; 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
