We are seeking creative and dynamic performance engineers to deliver the tools, analysis, and optimizations that will drive the Salesforce Core database technology to new levels of performance and scalability with every release.You are a keen analyst up and down the stack.
You enjoy designing experiments, analyzing data and optimizing software.
You've felt the thrill of speeding up SQL execution by 10X (or 100X) and like to talk about query plans at lunch! Our performance engineers partner closely with database and storage system developers, application performance engineers, infrastructure engineers, and our analytics team to deliver all the pieces that add up to high performance in production at scale.

Run and analyze a broad range of performance workloads and system benchmarks for release qualifications, research, and development projectsInvestigate production database performance issues.
Drive root cause analysis and identify solutions.Devise, prototype and evaluate query processing optimizations in the application layer and in the database engine code.
Work closely with systems and application developers to deliver performance fixes and proactive improvements.Collaborate with multiple teams on telemetry, dashboards, monitoring and analytics to manage the performance of our rapidly growing production fleetSupport application performance teams with expert query performance analysisProvide technical training in database performance analysis to the Salesforce engineering community.Requirements:
BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldMS or PhD in databases or distributed systems is a plus5+ years experience in professional software development5+ years experience in performance engineering for large scale software systemsStrong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and system designExpert SQL database programming skillsExtensive experience with SQL query optimizationFluency with Linux commands, shell scriptingProficiency in a high level programming language (Python, Java, JavaScript)Expertise in data analysis and visualizationHigh energy and enthusiasm for technical problem solving, learning and growth mindsetGreat communication and collaboration skillsDesired Skills & ExperienceDepth in database architecture and internals including query optimizer functionStrong coding skills (Java or C/C+)Experience with Splunk for performance monitoring and analyticsWorking with source control systems (Git preferred)Statistical analysis and experimental designOperating system concepts including processes, threads, memory management, networking, file systems, and storageExperience with C and Java profiling tools, JVM tuning, heap dump analysisNetwork technologies like DNS, Load Balancing, SSL, TCP/IP, HTTPCloud based platforms and infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)Docker and KubernetesAccommodationsIf you require assistance due to a disability applying for open positions please submit a request via this Accommodations Request Form.Posting StatementAt Salesforce we believe that the business of business is to improve the state of our world.
