JOB DESCRIPTION:

The President of Georgia Humanities provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the organization.

The President demonstrates passion for and knowledge of the humanities, and promotes the mission and vision for Georgia Humanities' future and positions the organization as a national leader in shaping public dialogue through the humanities.

Works to elevate collaborative initiatives between Georgia Humanities and cultural organizations throughout the state by advocating for recognition and actively seeking new sources of funding.

Understands and maintains best practices and values of nonprofit Board governance.

KEY POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP:

The Georgia Humanities President must be an inspiring strategist who steers the organization with passion and purpose while championing the humanities.

Building upon the staff's commitment, the President will support and encourage the staff's potential with strategic direction, highlighting team performance, transparent processes, and collective accountability for results.

Will work effectively with the Board of Directors to advance the mission of Georgia Humanities.

FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS ACUMEN:

The President must manage the organization thoughtfully, balancing mission and margin consistent with Board-approved policies and strategies, as well as those of the NEH.

Will ensure effective administration and oversight of Georgia Humanities' budget and finances and will be directly accountable for the organization's financial soundness.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING:

As the face of the organization, the President must be a compelling ambassador for the humanities and an uncommonly good relationship builder.

In addition to nurturing effective partnerships with existing and prospective stakeholders, must also foster Georgia Humanities' continued growth by diversifying resources, improving impact, and expanding the reach and relevance of the humanities throughout the state.

FUNDING:

The President must inspire broad support for Georgia Humanities through effective stewardship, including the development of a cadre of private donors, foundations, and corporations, and less reliance on public funding.

Will lead revenue development and fund-raising initiatives to ensure that Georgia Humanities has the resources to support grant-making and direct programming.

ADVOCACY AND PUBLIC POLICY:

The President must understand the importance of alliances and partnerships, maintaining high visibility and engagement with current and potential local, state, and federal partners.

Performs other related duties as required by the Board.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree in a humanities subject or in business, nonprofit management, or a related field, and seven years of proven leadership and management of staff in nonprofit organizations, preferably in the humanities, arts, or cultural sectors.

An advanced degree is preferred.

Proven ability to raise major gifts and develop institutional partnerships to support the financial health and strategic goals of the organization.

Financial acumen with experience in budgeting and planning.

Experience in securing State and Federal funding in addition to private foundation funding.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to the downtown Atlanta office location of the Georgia Humanities Council on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
