GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provide individualized assessments, mentoring, and job placement activities to participants at each of the club sites. Coordinate supportive services for each participant enrolled in the program to help them overcome their barriers to employment and be placed in a job or internship after training. Work closely with the Career Instructors at their site, the tutors, and their Workforce Regional Coordinator to facilitate service delivery and make the final employer-to-graduate connection for job placement.
TASKS AND DETAILED WORK ACTIVITIES:
• Offer academic and personal counseling and follow-up through coaching to establish program goals, monitor performance, and provide positive and constructive feedback aligned with goals.
• Offer workshops and/ or training aimed at employability career knowledge and social skills.
• Develop individual plans to ensure the long-term success of the program.
• Monitor participant progress in academic and career development, resume preparation, job interviews, job opportunities search, and other related actions.
• Be in contact with participants 90 days after graduating and/or working professionally, to ensure their retention and optimal job performance.
• Visit participants in job placement, as needed, to train and support their retention and performance.
• Manage situations regarding the work experience of participants during their first three months of employment.
• Identify and Coordinate internships and/or pre-employment and/or employment experiences for youth.
• Develop and maintain agreements and contracts for internships or work experiences with institutions, agencies, and other entities.
• Keeps appropriate records of participant progress, prepares reports, and communicates progress.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and comfortable classroom environment. Carefully explains goals, policies, ground rules, and grading policies at the beginning of the program.
• Selects and orders instructional supplies, materials, and resources.
• Performs various non-instructional duties including taking daily attendance, among others.
• Monitors participant progress through regular formal and informal assessments.
• Participates in committee work, family activities, and sponsored organizational activities.
• Perform any other task requested by the supervisor.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• AA or BA education, psychology, counseling, social work, human resources, or other related areas from an accredited university.
• Prior connection to the community and/or the population being served, with a preference for those in the immediate service area.
• Preferred two (2) years or more working in mentoring, social services, career training, job placement, or human resources with similar populations.
• E xcellent interpersonal and communication/listening skills, including written and oral skills in both English and Spanish preferred or when feasible.
• Demonstrate proactive orientation with emphasis on academic and leadership credibility.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Actively looking for ways to help people, giving full attention to what they are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Ability to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
• Ability to motivate participants, by maintaining a visible, approachable, and positive outlook in the handling of situations.
• Ability to research and abstract relevant educational development.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time well.
• Ability to prepare and manage budget and allocated resources.
• Computer/technological skills.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
• Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
• Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. The position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. May reach above shoulder height or below the waist and lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday must be able to lift 15 pounds and use proper lifting techniques.
