As a Public Health Nurse 2, you will use your public health nursing skills and knowledge to serve diverse individuals, families, communities, and systems. You will work independently and have the opportunity to handle a variety of situations and challenges. You will also have the support of a senior Public Health Nurse who can guide you when needed. You will mainly work at the Public Health Center, but you may occasionally travel to other areas or communities to provide itinerant nursing services as required. The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in Homer, Alaska, in the South-Central Region of Alaska, providing services to the communities on the South Kenai Peninsula. Communities served by Homer are accessible by vehicle, small aircraft, or boat. This position will primarily work out of the Homer Public Health Center. The Public Health Center staff includes a PHN 3, PHN 2, and one admin support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

PG03A2 - Public Health Nurse 2
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Special Notes:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

Candidates not actively enrolled, but who can provide proof of acceptance into an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program, may apply for vacancies in the Public Health Nurse 1 job class. Continued employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon active enrollment and attendance in the program commencing within six months of initial hire.

Successful performance of this work requires knowledge of principles and concepts of professional nursing, public and community health, and health care systems typically acquired through a course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Continued employment and advancement from Public Health Nurse I to Public Health Nurse 2 is contingent upon maintaining active enrollment, in good academic standing, and successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program within twenty-four mont.
