The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for multiple

Psychiatric Nurses 1/2.

This position will be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant's qualifications and job experience It is recommended that you apply for all levels if you are qualified.

Psychiatric Nurse 1: $43.04/hourly

Psychiatric Nurse 2: $46.05/hourly

What you will be doing:
In this position you will be providing skilled nursing care to patients; individualized patient assessment and care; participating in therapeutic activities as facilitator, or co-facilitator. You will be administering medications to patients and providing education including expected outcomes, possible side effects, and any food/drug interactions. You will be transcribing all orders and recording this information in each patient's Medication Administration Record (MAR) and chart regarding patient behavior and responses to medication treatment. Also, you will complete nursing assessments on newly admitted patients, patients on close observation special status, or patients that may require emergency seclusion or restraint. In addition, you will be determining and prioritizing individual nursing needs and monitoring and directing work assignments to Office Assistant 1's and Psychiatric Nurse Assistants 1/2/3 for both completion and accuracy.

The benefits of joining our team:
Offering a $15,000 sign-on bonus, to be paid in two equal installments of $7,500, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid upon successful completion of hospital orientation. The Second installment will be paid upon successful completion of Probation (one year). To receive an incentive, employees shall agree to a two (2) year term of employment with the Department at the time of hire.

Minimum Qualifications

Psychiatric Nurse 1:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Psychiatric Nurse 2 :
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND EITHER
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.

Substitution: Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
