Broodstock Manager

Job Summary:
Assist project leaders in successfullyrearing marine plants and animals for food and conservation.
Primary emphasis for this position is tooversee the husbandry of broodstock populations but a broad base of knowledgeacross all production areas (e.g.
spawning, larval rearing, live feeds, etc.)is ultimately required.
Supervision andtraining of technical staff and weekend work are also required.
Primary Duties:
• Oversee all broodstock populations, toensure healthy populations for spawning.This includes quarantine and organization of new broodstock, feedmanagement, managing spawning schedules, yearly weight sampling events, andassisting the veterinarian in treatment of populations if needed.
Assist in all other aspects of fish husbandryas needed.
• Assist with all research projectsinvolving broodstock populations.
Assistwith documentation of egg quality and egg production, as well as stocking eggsfor research projects.
• Ensure that all broodstock systems areoperational at all times so that SOPs can be successfully implemented.
Assist in the maintenance of all broodstocksystems and equipment.
Identify andreport problems as they occur.
Assistwith preventative maintenance and ongoing maintenance of other husbandrysystems and equipment.
• Document all procedures and keep neatand accurate records of all husbandry activities related to broodstockpopulations as well as all other husbandry activities; develop writtenprotocols; assist with reporting needs as appropriate; develop specific performancebenchmarks for broodstock populations.
• Assist in the training of alltechnical staff as it pertains to the broodstock feeding, egg collection, andgeneral husbandry.
Supervise technicianswhen appropriate.
• Ensure that all safety and biosecuritymeasures are being complied with and help in the development of new andimproved procedures as appropriate.Participate in the 24hr seawater monitoring program on an on-callrotational schedule.RequirementsQualifications:
• Collegedegree in biology preferred.
• Demonstratedexperience and proficiency in marine aquaculture.
• Experiencemanaging others.
• Responsible,hardworking individual with the ability to work both independently and as partof a team.
PhysicalRequirements and Working Conditions:
• Must possess mobility to work in laboratoryand office buildings and outdoor settings, to use standard laboratory and fieldequipment, to use a computer.
• Work areas may include wet and windyenvironments subject to weather exposure.
Indoor activities include office workand bench laboratory work.
• Vision to read printed materials and acomputer screen; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person andover the telephone with accommodation.Must be able to regularly workweekends and potentially odd hours and holidays.
• Must possess and maintain a valid drivinglicense and insurability to drive an HSWRI vehicle.
• Physical abilityto team lift and carry up to 50lbs.
