POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Globe and Mail is seeking a full-time content editor to join our newsletter team.
Newsletters offer a direct way to connect with our readers - without the whims of algorithms.
They are the new front page - a powerful habit-forming platform that is key in our efforts to build new audience and keep them coming back.
This team's mission is to deliver newsletters that inform, inspire and delight our audience.
Anticipating and listening to the audience's needs as well as experimentation are core to what we do.
The successful candidate will have solid news judgment, be an avid consumer of news and have a strong understanding of what makes a good newsletter.
Candidates must have previous editing experience and know how to write a great headline.
Previous reporting experience is an asset.
This role will primarily focus on our two flagship newsletters, Morning Update and Business Briefing.
Working collaboratively with the writers, you will help curate the newsletters, edit them, and strategize around how to improve them.
You will be immersed in the metrics, and provide feedback to the team on things to try or ways to pivot.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helping to determine what stories should be included in newsletters
Editing
Writing headlines
Researching topics to cover in our newsletters
Help manage the technical day-to-day of newsletter workflow
Using audience metrics to make suggestions to team
Opportunity to backfill the writers when they're on vacation
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least three years experience working in digital media
Understanding of how newsletters differ as a platform
Ability to work collaboratively
Ability to write engaging, clear prose
Understanding of how photography and graphics can be used to enhance the reader's experience
