The Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV) was the first arts council in North America. Since its beginning in 1946, the Community Arts Council of Vancouver has been a contributor to shaping the cultural life of Vancouver. CACV has been a powerful force in creating and advocating for many of the institutions, traditions, and policies in Vancouver that we benefit from today. CACV is an independent non-profit organization, registered charity, unaffiliated with any government department.

Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV) is seeking a Marketing Assistant (Student Work Placement) who works directly with the Executive Director, and Program Manager to support marketing and communications for the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival (VOAF). Festival dates are October 11-13, 2024 with installation dates on October 9-10, 2024.
Compensation: Living wage rate at $25.68 per hour for 240 hours from summer to fall 2024.
Confirmation of full vaccination will be required for any new staff. Effective as of this date, the requirement to be fully vaccinated will be included in all job postings and offer letters
The work is flexible and may be completed remotely or in our office located at the Woodwards Building (111 West Hastings St). The candidate would have to work in-person/on-site during the festival week from October 2024.

• This role is funded by the Student Work Placement Program. The SWP program objective is to connect students and Canadian cultural sector employers for meaningful work placements that apply and/or develop skills. Note - High school students and international students are not eligible.
To be eligible, students must meet all of the following requirements:
• Registered as a student in a recognized Canadian PSE institution in any program or field of study
• Legally allowed to work in Canada according to the laws and regulations of the province or territory where they work
• Either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person granted refugee protection under the law.
Marketing Assistant Role:
• Support development and implementation of outreach strategies including communications, marketing and promotions, social media, and to support public events, festival call for artists and arts fund call for applications.
• Write, edit, and coordinate written and graphic content for the CACV's social media platforms, newsletter, and other communications as needed
• Create/edit short-format videos for social media
• Review social media analytics reports and suggest ways to increase engagement.
• Support preparation of media releases and solicitation of media coverage.
• Ensure consistency of brand guidelines across media channels and formats
• Capture audiovisual (photographs, videos, audio) during programs and special events to later edit for digital channels.
• Assist with marketing and communications program reports
• Attend weekly meetings with all staff
• Additional duties as assigned
Core Competencies:
• Relevant education and/or professional experience, 1 year minimum
• Arts events, exhibitions, or festival-producing experience
• Collaborator who can adapt to different styles of thinking and communication
• Strong organizational and task-management skills
• Excellent communication skills both digital and in-person
• Strong in Word and Excel, can use Mac or Windows OS and basic Google tools including Calendar & Drive.
• Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
• Shared values with the Community Arts Council of Vancouver
Other Skills & Experience:
• Previous arts festival and event experience is an asset
• Experience in collaboration with diverse individuals, including people facing social exclusion, people with disabilities, marginalized/equity-seeking communities
• Social action creative practice i.e. previous commitment to the intersection of arts and social change
