JOB OVERVIEW:
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, timely and courteous transportation for residents to and from various activities while providing quality service. Responsible for maintaining paperwork and records in addition to maintaining the community's vehicles in good working condition to include monthly and pre-trip vehicle inspections. Responsible for ensuring effective communication with residents and families and for notifying the General Manager II of any changes in a resident's condition or behavior.

Our foundational belief is the sacred value of human life. The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:
Driving:
Provides transportation services for residents.
Assists residents with any special needs during transportation, such as but not limited to, carrying packages, opening doors and assisting residents in and out of the vehicle and to the point of destination.
Always maintains focus on driving and directs tasks and passenger interactions to on-board support staff while vehicle is in motion.
Never uses a personal cell phone while performing Driver duties.
Provides miscellaneous pickup and delivery services as needed.
Always demonstrates positive resident relations.
Follows safety, loss prevention and infection control procedures.
Coordinates the activities of other Sunrise Senior Living team members who are performing in a driver assistance role, 'spotter', or resident care capacity.
Possesses competent knowledge of local area including traffic patterns in order to closely estimate travel times and plans appropriate routes to destinations.
Always observes and considers resident safety.
Reports any resident's change of condition to General Manager II.
Vehicle Maintenance and Supplies:
Maintains all community vehicles in good working condition, including cleanliness, fully charged community cell phone, equipment, checking lights and operation of vehicle, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, blood spill clean-up kit and other safety equipment or assistive devices (step stool to assist residents on and off the vehicle).
Performs routine preventative maintenance as directed by Sunrise Senior Living policy, federal and state requirements as applicable and all regular state and local inspections, permits and registrations requirements.
Maintains all tools, equipment, and supplies in proper condition.
Assists with the Sunrise vehicle(s) registration and license plates renewal process.
Inspects and documents vehicle condition on a monthly and per trip basis completing the approved Sunrise Senior Living forms.
Handles and stores oxygen and other potentially dangerous materials in accordance with Sunrise Senior Living policy and authority having jurisdiction.
Risk Management and General Safety:
Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with OSHA requirements, promoting Risk Management programs and policies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures.
General:
Successfully completes and passes all pre-employment, post-accident and annual random drug and alcohol screening as applicable per applicable regulations and policy.
A current copy of applicable regulations is available upon request from the Risk Management leadership team.
Attends in-services as required by federal and state regulations and as needed.
Responds in a timely manner to requests and concerns from residents, family members and team members.
Always maintains and protects the confidentiality of resident information.
Notifies the General Manager II of any resident concern and/or change in condition.
Immediately reports all vehicle accidents, incidents, and safety problems to the General Manager II.
Trains Sunrise Senior Living team members on driving, driver assistance procedures 'spotting', vehicle maintenance, and safety as needed.
Adheres to applicable regulations and Sunrise Senior Living policies pertaining to driving.
Training, and Contributing to Team Success:
Actively participates as a member of a team and commits to working toward team goals.
Demonstrates in daily interactions with others, our Team Member Credo.
Committed to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.
Contributes to the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops.
Attends regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor/Department Coordinator.
Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.
Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Maintains a current applicable driver's license to drive Sunrise vehicles provided, with an acceptable driving record in accordance with applicable regulations and Sunrise policy.
Maintain the following certifications and ongoing training and re-education as required by Sunrise and state regulations:
CPR
Annual driver education
Any other applicable certifications
Possess knowledge of all safety precautions and comply with safety procedures.
Ability to react calmly in emergency situations and be considerate.
Ability to operate a chair lift and secure regular and mechanical wheelchairs and scooters.
At least 21 years of age.
Ability to work semi-independently without direct supervision by following all community procedures and guidelines, follow through on assigned tasks and demonstrate initiative.
Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in a resident's best interest.
Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
Competent in organizational and time management skil.
