Regional HVAC/Refrigeration Technician - Northeast Region

Position Summary

As a Regional HVAC/ Refrigeration Technician, you are primarily responsible for the operation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation and preventive maintenance of mechanical, HVAC/Refrigeration systems and related electric, pneumatic, electronic, and direct digital controls for the region. Facilities include office buildings, materials laboratories, service centers, storage buildings, and communication towers within the region.

You will perform systems analysis, maintenance and repairs on HVAC/Refrigeration equipment including but not limited to air handling units (AHUs), humidification systems, boilers, chillers, circulating pumps, air and water filtration systems, pneumatic, electric and direct digital controls (DDC), temperature control air compressors and refrigerated air driers, air cooled or water-cooled condensers and evaporative cooling towers.

You will also provide other maintenance or repairs on emergency generators, plumbing equipment and systems, lighting ballast replacement and lighting control systems, building structures and site/grounds maintenance.

Collectively, you will be responsible for servicing approximately 9 WisDOT owned buildings and 11 Wisconsin State Patrol communication towers within the region.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (03-15) with a salary of $26.55 - $30.65 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position requires the physical ability to:
• Climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding and work at heights above 20 feet in order to reach HVAC/ Refrigeration equipment
• Perform duties within extreme temperature ranges for outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter
• Enter, exit and perform duties in confined spaces to address HVAC/ Refrigeration equipment performance
• Sufficient physical ability to stoop, crawl, bend and reach under and over obstacles and work in non-standard height spaces in order to perform repair and maintenance duties

The selected applicant must also be eligible to independently drive a state-owned vehicle on a daily basis within the assigned territory or statewide as necessary.

Certain positions within this Department may allow hybrid/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow hybrid work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must detail having experience in all the following in order to be considered:
• Repairing, diagnosing and/or installing HVAC systems
• Temperature Control Systems maintenance and/or repair to include installing, scheduling and/or programming direct digital controls (DDCs)
• Interacting with and/or providing effective service to customers

In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will also detail having experience with one or more of the following:
• Experience working with a facility information work management system such as IWMS
• Experience installing, repairing, and/or maintaining plumbing and/or electrical systems/fixtures/units
• Experience with project management or building construction
