Job Duties
The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission (VIDC), a Commonwealth of Virginia Independent Agency, is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights of our clients through zealous, compassionate, high-quality legal advocacy. The Administrative Office, which provides support to 29 public defender offices statewide, is now accepting applications for a Re-Entry and Recovery Supervisor. This is a grant-funded position and is dependent on the continued availability of funding from the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority. The qualified candidate will supervise a team of Re-Entry and Recovery Specialists working in public defender offices. The Re-Entry and Recovery Supervisor position reports to the Deputy Director in the Administration office and is employed at-will.
Duties:
The position entails overseeing a team of Re-Entry and Recovery Specialists who operate within public defender offices. These specialists play a crucial role in the legal defense team, assisting clients in locating community resources to aid in their reintegration following incarceration. The primary focus is on clients dealing with substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder, as well as mental health issues, helping them find community treatment programs, secure housing, and obtain employment or benefits. The Supervisor will establish a data collection system to gather information pertaining to the services provided by the specialists and generate reports on their services and outcomes. Additionally, the Supervisor will maintain regular communication with each Specialist and visit their work sites to ensure their work is on track. The Supervisor will also be responsible for grant reporting requirements.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Public Health, or a related field is preferred. Working experience in a substance use or mental health discipline, specifically opioid use, may substitute for a degree. Peer Recovery Specialist Certification or equivalent professional certification is preferred. Previous experience working in a social services or criminal justice environment and/or, with indigent clients is preferred.

- Prior experience developing data collection systems to capture information.
- Skill in developing and maintaining relationships with community partners, including employers, housing providers, treatment facilities, and neighboring agencies.
- Prior experience maintaining accurate records of program activities, including progress reports and individual case files.
Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality. - The ability to ensure that all program activities are in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to fully utilize technology tools and systems.
- The ability to work independently in a team environment, along with the ability to establish rapport and maintain professional relationships with members of the defense team and agencies that provide services.
- Successful candidates for this role will have a strong understanding of substance use disorders and treatment services, particularly opioid use disorder and treatment services, as well as experience working with individuals who are re-entering the community after being incarcerated. They will have excellent communication and leadership skills, and be able to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and organizations.
- Statewide travel is required therefore the selected candidate must have a valid driver's license.
