Overview

Birdsboro Quarry, a division of the H&K Group, Inc. is looking for an experienced person for a Rail Car Mechanic/Inspector to maintain the fleet of railroad cars to AAR and FRA standards. The ideal candidate is motivated, energetic, interested and engaged in learning new skills, and carries out work safely.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs all work according to MSHA, FRA, AAR, BMHK RR, and H&K Safety policies
Maintains railcars by welding repairs or fabricating new parts
Coordinates with General Foreman on ordering parts and keeping stock on property
Keeps proper records for corporate and proper authority review
Cleans equipment as needed
Ensures equipment is safely and securely parked and stored
Maintains equipment by greasing properly and checking fluids daily (oils, coolant, fuel level)
Performs daily checks on equipment to ensure proper operating condition
Informs General Foreman of Railroad Operations of cars to be added or removed from trains
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution OR of related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Railcar maintenance experience
Class 1 single car air test certified
Welding, cutting, and fabrication experience
Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn
Verbal and written communication skills
Basic computer skills
Problem solving
Able and willing to work a second shift schedule
Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience

Class 2 single car air test certified
Experience working in a quarry, heavy civil construction, or other outdoor industrial setting
MSHA or other relevant safety certification

Physical Demands

- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Reach with hands and arms
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Talk or hear
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

Work Environment

Regularly exposed to:
- Outside weather conditions
- Vibration
