The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator supports the Premier Health mission, vision, and values, by serving as the service line's primary contact for resolution of the patient's account balance, in accordance with PH policies.
The Patient Financial Navigator is the first point of contact for Oncology patient assistance, especially those who are uninsured, underinsured, and/or have low incomes.
They will assess and determine a plan for resolution of the patient's financial responsibilities.
This includes establishing payment plans and/or making alternative financial arrangements, evaluating patient's eligibility for Medicaid, state and hospital-sponsored charity care programs, grants, and other available funding sources.
The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator will calculate and coordinate collection of patients' estimated balances at pre-service, or at the point of service.
The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator understands the hospital's financial and discounting policies and possesses the ability to use critical thinking skills to research and provide the most appropriate resolution, based upon the patient's situation.
The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator collaborates with other departments within the hospital, and outside eligibility vendors, as necessary or required.
The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator uses financial systems to document, collate, and report data, and conducts procedures to assist the patient in filing for Medicaid and/or other public assistance programs.
The Financial Navigator will demonstrate a foundation of integrity, good judgment, and trust, to ensure patient confidentiality.
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required:
3 - 5 years of job related experience
Preferred experience:
Experience working directly with the public is strongly preferred.
Courses/workshops in compliance, medical self-pay accounts receivable management, Medicaid, medical billing experience preferred.
Familiarity with statutes and regulations regarding self-pay collections practices and financial assistance is strongly preferred.
Other experience requirements:
Demonstrated understanding of patient registration, third party collections, verification of insurance benefits, Medicaid and other government programs, financial assistance, hospital billing and/or managed care contracts is required.
Must have 3+ years of recent financial assistance, billing, insurance verification, or self-pay accounts receivable management experience in a healthcare/medical setting or financial institution setting, with oversight of functions such as credit application processing; credit reference and related information verification; and the ability to determine lines of credit.
The Oncology Patient Financial Navigator will have the ability to prepare reports on the status of credit and collections, and other operating statements.
Must possess mathematical aptitude and pass a skills test to include calculating contractual obligations, co-pays, and deductibles.
