The Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute (TUBRI) is seeking to hire three new Assistant Curator positions funded by an extramural grant for a three-year period. The Assistant Curator will work in the Royal D. Suttkus Fish collection, which is part of TUBRI and located in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. The successful candidates will work under the direct supervision of the fish collection manager.
Primary responsibilities of the position include:
(1) Expanding the Suttkus Fish Collection to a third building on Tulane's Hebert Center campus, by creating two large collection storage areas in Bunker A-2 and moving some the jar lots from Bunker A-3 and all of the jars from Bunker A-15 to these new storage areas;
(2) Addressing curatorial needs of the jars as they are being handled;
(3) Integrating specimens and data from the Neil H. Douglas (ULM) fish collection into the Suttkus Fish Collection; and
(4) Replacing the 48 plastic storage containers in the large-specimen facility (Bunker A-15) to address a problem of alcohol evaporation due to the bins' faulty lids.
•Ability to work independently (following a period of training in performance of required tasks)
•Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work cooperatively with others.
•Highly effective organizational skills; ability to complete assigned tasks within project timelines and in accordance with established protocols.
•Ability to work efficiently without supervision
•Experience working in Natural History collections would be preferred
•Bachelor's Degree
•High School Diploma/Equivalent and six years directly related experience.
•Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
•Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
