Northern Kentucky University (NKU) invites applications for a Laboratory Animal Care Technician. This employee will oversee our vivarium and related procedural spaces that serve the teaching and research goals of a number of grant funded faculty, their staff, and students. We are seeking someone to operate this facility and to provide the daily care and husbandry of the laboratory animals (fish, amphibians, mice, and rats) housed in this space.

Primary Responsibilities
The Laboratory Animal Care Technician (LACT) will manage the operational activities of the NKU Vivarium. This person will work with faculty and staff to provide routine care and husbandry of animals in the facility, including the care of animals exposed to BSL-2 agents. The facility contains state-of-the-art housing and cage cleaning systems that will be operated under the oversight of the LACT.
The LACT will also be responsible for compiling and maintaining electronic records related to animal use and health, as well as facilities operations that are required by Federal, State, and Institutional Animal Use and Care committee (IACUC) mandates. The LACT will work with users to schedule activities within the vivarium and related procedural areas, train staff and students as needed on necessary equipment, and oversee supply deliveries for the facility as well as arranging for maintenance and repairs as needed on facility equipment and spaces.
Qualifications
A B.S. or B.A. in natural or social science and experience working with animals are preferred. The ability to lift 50 pounds and move carts and racks is required. A high school diploma is required.
