This is a senior position which requires in-depth knowledge of nuclear used/spent fuel generation, characterization, and modelling and analysis.
In addition, an understanding of spent fuel facilities (e.g., independent spent fuel storage installations, spent fuel pools, canister/cask handling procedures) and technologies (e.g., canister and cask design system design, canister and cask closure options, drying technologies, repair/mitigation alternatives) is highly desirable.
Previous NRC or DOE licensing experience is preferred.
Finally, an understanding of the current DOE-managed and commercial spent fuel management system, including the utility, vendor, and Federal roles, is preferred.The individual will contribute to assist in the effective long-term management and disposition of DOE's inventory of spent nuclear fuels.
The position requires in-depth knowledge of used/spent handling, storage, transport, and disposal considerations.
This includes experience in both wet and dry fuel handling and storage equipment, systems, and facilities; canister and cask loading and closure operations; radiological and criticality safety; and regulatory and policy considerations.
Project management, leadership, and oral and written communication skills will be necessary to function effectively with multi-disciplinary teams representing different site agendas and interests.The individual will contribute to a broad range of spent fuel related projects, including but not limited to:
DOE-NE's Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition program, DOE-EM's Technology Development activities, and industry/vendor collaborations.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Working with INL leadership, DOE-ID, DOE-HQ, and other national laboratories to establish agreements, priorities, strategies, and problem resolutions to promote successful integration and completion of DOE SNF program objectivesDeveloping INL capabilities to better support SNF program needs and mentoring project team members to ensure project/program goals and strategies achieve overall successPerforming project management functions such as:
