Tax Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY

Prepare various client and corporate tax reports. Proactively manage the client tax reporting process.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Provide oversight and assistance for client tax reporting within Everence Foundation and Everence Trust Company, including the following tax forms or tax concepts:
    1. Fiduciary income tax returns (1041 and 5227)
    2. Proper reporting related to 1099DIOB and MISC forms
    3. Retirement account tax reporting (1099-R and 5498)
    4. Processing and reporting of federal and state tax payments and EFTPS knowledge
    5. Wash sales, cost basis adjustments, and taxation of trust assets
  2. Prepare trust tax returns as well as perform in-depth and cursory reviews of returns as prepared by internal staff and through an outsourced relationship with a tax vendor. Perform applicable maintenance throughout the year in the OneSource Trust Tax system.
  3. Coordinate federal and state corporate tax return (1120 and 1165) preparation by the external public accounting firm. Compile supporting documentation as requested. Prepare certain corporate state tax forms not outsourced.
  4. Prepare supporting documentation for preparation of forms 990 and 990-T by external public accounting for four not-for-profit entities.
  5. Prepare form 5500 for several small employer plans.
  6. Remit tax withholdings for annuities and prepare reporting with tax authorities.
  7. Perform other tax accounting services as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

B.S. or B.A. in Accounting or Business, or equivalent experience

Experience:

  1. One year of accounting experience is required, with an emphasis on tax accounting
  2. Prior tax experience in public accounting or with a financial services firm is a plus

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills are required
  2. Knowledge of computer accounting systems, query, and spreadsheet tools required
  3. Advanced use of Microsoft Excel preferred
  4. Prior experience with OneSource Trust Tax helpful
  5. The ability to communicate effectively and work as a team
  6. Respect and promote the mission of Everence

SCHEDULE: Full-time
