The DC Rape Crisis Center (DCRCC) is the oldest
rape crisis center in the country, and the only rape crisis center in
Washington, D.C. DCRCC has been
providing survivor centered, and trauma informed services through an
anti-oppressive lens for 50 years.
Reports to: The Sexual Assault Advocate is supervised by
the Advocacy Services Manager.
Summary: The DCRCC seeks a contract Sexual
Assault Advocate to participate in its 24/7 on call rotation advocacy
program, to include hospital response, and community based response for
survivors of sexual assault. DCRCC covers the program every other week in
the month as part of a Joint Response Program. This program is in accordance with the Sexual Assault Victims' Rights
Amendment Act of 2019, and the DC Sexual Assault Crisis Response
Program. The Sexual Assault Advocate will directly be responsible for
providing in person acute hospital/community advocacy to survivors of
sexual assault within the District and also ongoing advocacy support in the
aftermath of the assault. Acute advocacy services include but not limited to
information for survivors regarding their rights, making referrals and
connecting survivors to DCRCC's advocacy program for ongoing support as needed.
Ongoing advocacy support includes but not limited to providing advocacy, resources
and referrals for short term needs, crisis/emotional support, and accompaniment
for acute follow up when needed. Advocate must be a critical thinker, work well
with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams, communicate and write effectively,
highly organized, flexible, ability to problem solve, and must be
resourceful. The Sexual Assault Advocate will execute job duties, and
responsibilities from an intersectional, and anti-oppression framework
while upholding the values, and the mission of DCRCC.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•
Ability to support the 24/7 on-call hospital based, and
community based Sexual Assault Crisis Response Program whether scheduled
for a shift or as needed for backup coverage every other week of the month.
•
Ability to be assigned and provide overnight and weekend shifts to
support the hospital based and community based Sexual Assault Crisis Response
Program.
•
Ability to respond within one hour to all requests for advocacy
services that includes the hospital response and community based
response.
•
Provide in person hospital based crisis/advocacy support, and or
in person/ virtual community base crisis/advocacy support to survivors of
sexual assault to include, but not limited to information regarding their
rights, as well as making referrals whether on dispatch or while providing
ongoing advocacy to clients.
•
Ability
to serve shifts as admin on call when scheduled.
•
Connect survivors of sexual assault to the Advocacy Services
Coordinator within the DC Rape Crisis Center who will provide ongoing advocacy
support as needed during follow up to acute response.
•
Provide daily shift reports, and elevate issues and programmatic
needs in the time required.
•
Issue spotting of any rights violations.
•
Participate in regular group supervision and
other meetings as required.
•
Support and maintain individual and department
goals, activity metrics and key performance indicators.
•
Collect, track, analyze and complete data
reporting in alignment with requirements for both the agency, as well as adhering to funder requirements.
•
Promote, support and demonstrate the mission,
vision and values of the DC Rape Crisis Center through both behavior, and job performance as well as adhere
to policies, procedures, and standards on a day to day basis.
•
Participate in all stages of internal and
external trainings as needed.
•
Making referrals to other organizations for
services, to include legal services, mental health services, and other forms of
advocacy during dispatch and ongoing off dispatch weeks.
•
Take
staff hotline.
•
Provide
crisis intervention and support to survivors of sexual violence as needed.
•
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education,
or related field.
•
At least 1-3 years of experience in the field of social services,
sexual assault crisis response, and or hotline/intervention experience.
•
Driver's License and access to a car.
•
Ability to arrive to a DC Location within one hour of dispatch -
live either in DC or within 15 miles of DC - when on dispatch shift.
•
Shift work or on call experience beneficial.
•
Ability to exercise judgment and specific discretion in decision
making situations significant to role/agency
•
Knowledge of issues of sexual trauma, and gender based violence.
•
Demonstrated cultural competency in working with diverse
populations.
•
Commitment to social justice, and anti-racism work.
•
Knowledge of victim services within the District of Columbia.
•
The ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a
team environment.

Shift work, and or on call experience a plus.
