Job Overview
The Junior Bioinformatician in the Slingerland Laboratory has an essential role in assisting research in cell cycle regulation and PI3K signaling, affecting the productivity of federally funded research projects in the Lab and the ability to acquire further external funding for the lab and GUMC as a whole.
They investigate novel pro-oncogenic roles of p27 in transcriptional regulation and epigenetics.
Other projects pursue how estrogen receptor and NFKB pathways interact to link estrogens, obesity, inflammation, and breast cancer stem cells.
As well, they perform a diverse array of bioinformatic analyses to support molecular biology, biochemical and mouse genetics experimental research.
The Junior Bioinformatician also has an integral role in the everyday running of the lab in completing a host of bioinformatics related tasks and responsibilities.
Work Interactions
Reporting to and working directly with the Principal Investigator, the Junior Bioinformatician assists in establishing and assisting in executing bioinformatics analyses.
They also receive instruction and mentorship from the more senior bioinformatics personnel in the lab.
As well, they assist with training junior lab members in bioinformatics-related expertise, as required by the PI, per Georgetown University policies and procedures.
This position has been designated as On-Campus.

Requirements and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree - preference for Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and/or related field
• Experience as part of a research team in an academic setting - preference for 0-2 years and/or experience in basic molecular biology, mammalian cell culture
• Knowledge of bioinformatics as applied to molecular biology, pipeline use and development, organizing and implementing complex research plans, analysis of data, and assistance with writing manuscripts for publication of findings
• Ability to function independently to understand research design and to assist in analysis of bioinformatic data to interpret experimental results
• Discretion and judgment in research activities within project scope and methodologies
• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and to acquire new skills when needed
• Knowledge of cancer research
• Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines
• High motivation and detail orientation
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and ability to collaborate with others
• Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously and independently
• Proven problem solving skills
Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
