Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people
and goods by rail - including rolling stock, rail automation, rail
electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire
spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains,
light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and
high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide
traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling
and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.
The System Engineer will
craft and build the system that converts the energy from the grid or from
locomotive power to power our trains and will function as the local core
engineering expert for the auxiliary electrical systems on light rail vehicles,
locomotives, and coaches. The auxiliary electrical system includes the
auxiliary power supply converters, battery chargers, pantographs, low voltage
batteries, ground brushes, grounding systems, shop power switch and receptacle,
lightning arresters, high voltage fuses, contactors, and circuit breakers.
Responsibilities:
- The responsibilities of this position include the
concept, design, specification, integration, interface, compatibility,
verification, and evaluation in support of very sophisticated mechanical,
electro-mechanical, and/or electrical components or systems. - Evaluate and approve the technical capabilities and
physical properties of A and some B system suppliers and the content of
their proposals, type tests, production documents, software, and manuals. - Analyze and approve the engineering products, software,
and/or equipment specifications and performance to resolve and verify the
functionality of the physical and functional interfaces. - Participates with suppliers, purchasing, quality,
production, and project management regarding scheduling and system costs
per contract. - Participates with purchasing, customer service, and
quality in supplier master purchase agreements. - Participates in Auxiliary Power Supply, Battery
Charger, Battery, and Pantograph Strategic Supply Management with
Purchasing and Quality - Reviews and supports design packages within the
auxiliary system responsibilities, providing detailed design reviews and
support for vehicle mock-ups and swap compatibility tests. - Validates and/or conducts specified analyses or tests
and makes recommendations for the development of new designs, methods,
changes, or processes for the relevant system. - Supports and validates initial installation, system
compliance, and testing within their specialty field. - Writes detailed system specifications and scope of
supply documents for supplier quotations and evaluates supplier offers
concerning technical requirements. - Prepares system descriptions and test procedures.
- Reviews and approves vendor drawings, schematics, type
test procedures, reports, and manuals before release. - Prepares formal presentations and participates in
estimating and evaluating costs for proposals and contracts.
Required
Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- At least 5 years of experience in
inverter IGBT driven - Power Supply Systems
- 5-10 years proven experience preferred
- Power electronics, relay logic, control logic and drive
control knowledge required. - Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel.

base salary range in Sacramento, CA, is $108,400 - $146,600. The salary may be higher or
lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge,
skills, and qualifications.
