Position Summary
Under general direction of the Lead Cook, the Cook operates all kitchen services, directs the work of assigned volunteers, and prepares and serves food. They maintain food production areas in a sanitary and orderly condition and perform related duties as required.
Essential Functions
- Assist Food Service Manager to prepare and serve meals in mass quantities.
- Assist Food Service Manager to plan menus and food utilization based on anticipated number of guests, nutritional value, palatability, and costs.
- Assist Food Service Manager to maintain a monthly menu for 3 meals daily and additional meal service for Homeless Program with 1 meal daily.
- Assist Food Service Manager to monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes and presentation of food to ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.
- Test and taste all cooked food to ensure palatability and flavor conformity.
- Assist in the oversight of cleaning and storing of all dishes, utensils, cafeteria, and food prep equipment.
- Assist in the maintenance and regular cleaning of the kitchen and verifying that all sanitation levels are met.
- Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation and serving, and dining facilities.
- Assist Food Service Manager to resolve complaints regarding food quality, service, or accommodations.
- Assist Food Service Manager to maintain daily records of number of meals served for statistical reporting to TSA.
- Advise Food Service Manager of changes and related information pertinent to the food service and meal program.
Work Conditions
- Ability to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis; to grasp, reach, handle, finger, push or pull objects
- Hearing and vision acuity at or corrected to within normal levels
- Ability to lift, up to 25lbs., or more with assistance
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years work experience in qualified food services position.
- Possession of a food handlers permit.
- General knowledge of food and nutrition.
- General knowledge of proper food preparation.
- Ability to multitask regarding all food preparation and service.
- Ability to operate and utilize commercial kitchen equipment.
- Hold and maintain a valid California Drivers license.
- Must pass TSA Decision Driving Course.
