If you previously applied, there is no reason to apply again.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:This position performs a variety of engineering duties involving the design, installation, troubleshooting, and/or modification of a wide range of communications systems including voice, optical and data communications via radio, microwave and cable transmissions for Alaska Public Safety Communication Services (APSCS). The position provides engineering expertise to State agencies regarding electromagnetic communications requirements; and recommends new, or revise existing communications to achieve greater economy, efficiency and eliminate obsolescence.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:The position supports many of the state and local 9-1-1 dispatch centers' radio equipment enabling mission critical communications to first responders as they answer calls for help. Your work will support Mutiple team efforts to ensure reliable emergency communications services through a system comprised of over 150 communication sites enabling emergency and day-to-day services to state, local, Department of Defense and federal agencies as they carry out their missions to the public. Those sites often include microwave communications, high availability network routers, primary and emergency power, shelters and towers all supporting land mobile radio and other customer equipment and services.

Minimum QualificationsCOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER 1
Knowledge of basic electronic systems and equipment; electronics practices, methods and terminology; engineering mathematics; and, engineering economics.
General knowledge of construction and electrical engineering practices, principles and standards.
Substantial knowledge of principles, practices, methods, terminology, and recent technological advances in radio, optional, wire, satellite and microwave transmission of voice and data communications.
Ability to understand and apply Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations; electronics principles and practices in the development and installation of communications systems; prepares specifications and make final engineering recommendations on various radio and wire communications systems; analyze technical data; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of the work; and, direct the activities of construction and technical personnel in the construction and installation of communications equipment and systems.
