The Jean Augustine Centre for YoungWomen's Empowerment was established in June 2014 by the Hon.
DrJean Augustine.
Recognizing the need for a space of this kind-a centrenow celebrating 10 rewarding years and counting-the centre isdedicated to building the self-esteem and self-worth of young womenand girls by positively influencing their outlook on life, broadeningtheir horizons, and empowering them to take charge of their futures.It is within this context that the Board invites nominations andapplications for the role of Executive Director, a position that will have an indelible impact on thecentre's next phase of growth, success, and impact.
Reportingto a volunteer Board of Directors chaired by Dr.
Augustine, theExecutive Director will provide strategic leadership and overseeorganizational management and resource planning to ensure theeffective functioning of the organization.
Key responsibilitiesinclude managing financial operations; handling HR-related matterswithin the organization; leading grant writing efforts; organizingevents; spearheading fundraising initiatives; and, managing donorrelations to secure essential resources for the centre.
Among otherresponsibilities, this role involves engaging with the greatercommunity to foster strong partnerships all while serving as a rolemodel to the young people who garner services and support from theorganization.
Qualifications
Among the qualifications sought in candidates, the incomingleader must demonstrate a profound commitment to advancingreconciliation and promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, andaccessibility in all its forms.
They should intrinsically believe inthe importance of leading with curiosity, valuing diverseperspectives, and transforming innovative ideas into tangiblepossibilities.
While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in sodoing, share how they see themselves adding value to the centre, thefollowing credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markersof the candidates most likely to realize success in the role:
A) anability to deeply understand and effectively respond to the livedexperiences of the young women and girls who benefit from the centre;B) a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., non-profitmanagement, social work, business administration) or the equivalentcombination of experience and continuous learning; C) leadershipexperience in the not-profit and/or charitable sector, with knowledgeof Canadian charity regulations, fundraising best practices, andnon-profit governance principles; D) the ability to effectivelycommunicate with Board members, donors, volunteers, employees, themedia, and the community at large in both spoken and written form,and; E) a proven strategic thinker, a collaborative leader, and apassionate advocate for social change.
