About Us
The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia's 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges. We are an engaged and supportive workplace ensuring safety of our public service; ensuring all return home healthy and safe. The Marine Services division of Public Works maintains and operates seven provincial ferries: Englishtown, Little Narrows, Country Harbor, LaHave River, Tancook Island, and Digby Neck. Our Ferry staff help further connect and expand Nova Scotia's transportation network while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our Provincial Ferries. Our ferries operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. If you want an exciting and challenging career with a daily view of our beautiful Atlantic waters, then we have the perfect opportunity just for you.

You will inspect, repair, and maintain the mechanical and electrical equipment on the ferry.
You will direct traffic on the Ferry; arranging vehicles on the deck and ensuring that the boat is clean at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
You have Grade 10 education and 3 years of mechanical experience. The Petit Princess is a motor ferry and therefore a SVMO (small vessel machinery operator's license) is required. You have your Seafarers Certificate of Medical Examination, a valid Marine Emergency Duty Certificate, and valid Marine First Aid. Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential, along with your ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Strong ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative in your duties will aid in ensuring the Ferry meets safety standards and maintains schedules.
