Description :
The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for the position of Head of the Section of Neurology.
The section is one of 17 in the Department of Internal Medicine, providing patient care, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, and research.
The incumbent will have a leading role in the health care delivery system of Neurology services in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
This is a major academic position with substantial resources within the health system, primarily at two academic health centres and one community-based hospital.
The 28 faculty members form a section that includes a highly productive and internationally renowned Multiple Sclerosis research group and a strong residency training program.
A new 28-bed acute stroke unit has been announced, to be opened in 2021, and urgent recruitment of neurologists will be required.
The successful applicant, based at Health Sciences Centre, will lead a group of academic neurologists in a busy and expanding program and report to the Department Head of Internal Medicine and Provincial Specialty Lead - Internal Medicine, Shared Health.
The successful candidate will be an academic neurologist with proven leadership abilities, including support for neurological research, a demonstrated capacity to collaborate with related disciplines, and demonstrated clinical excellence.
They will build, coordinate, and enhance our academic and clinical program in Neurology, and will also further the aims of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Neurology through their superior clinical and teaching skills.
This is a geographic full-time, contingent position commencing September 1, 2020 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a term of five years, renewable upon favourable review.
Qualifications :
Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Neurology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
Certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.
Compensation :
Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
